This easy milkshake recipe has only four simple ingredients and is jam-packed with delicious minty flavour. If you have a sweet tooth for mint chocolate desserts, this is for you! Bonus: it can be ready in 5 minutes flat.
This sweet treat comes just in time for St. Patrick’s Day. It also comes with a super short list of ingredients and next to no work involved. I’m mean, seriously: how often can you find a mint chocolate dessert that can be made from start to finish in under five minutes? If you’ve followed this blog for a while, you’ll know that I’m always excited to share a simple recipe. Trust me when I say that this delicious treat is where easy desserts are at.
I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
In order to make the ingredient list short and sweet, I chose to use mint chocolate chip ice cream for the base of this shake. Could I have used vanilla ice cream or chocolate ice cream for this recipe? Sure, but that would have required using pure peppermint extract, chocolate chips or cacao nibs, and a whole slew of other ingredients. Honestly, I wanted quick and easy.
I have several go-to ice cream brands that I like to use, but I decided to list some of my favourite below. (None of these are affiliate links – though if any of these brands were interested, I totally stand by their products!)
- COWS Chunky Chocolate Mint
- Baskin Robbins Mint Chocolate Chip
- Haagen Dazs Mint Chip
- Breyers Non-Dairy Mint Chocolate Chip (great dairy-free option and no artificial colours added)
Why My Milkshake Brings All the Boys to the Yard
Can we all agree that not all milkshake recipes are created equal? I would argue that this mint chocolate milkshake is kind of a cut above the rest. Why? First, the addition of mint flavoured Oreos thrown into the mix. Double stuffed too, no less. Second, the option to give this drinkable dessert an adult rating by adding a generous splash of Irish cream liqueur. St. Paddy’s Day never looked so good!
Special Equipment
Thankfully, nothing but a blender, a tall glass and a straw is needed for this recipe. If it’s your first time making a milkshake, prepare to be dazzled by how ridiculously easy they are to execute.
Rim It Real Good
Here’s the thing: you don’t have to rim your milkshake glass with chocolate… but I highly encourage that you do. I had leftover Chocolate Ganache in the house and so I went for it. Simply dip your glass into the ganache, then place the glasses in the freezer for 10 minutes. Remove them from the freezer when you’re ready to pour your shake.
What You’ll Need
As mentioned previously, the list of ingredients is short for this recipe. I did go ahead and add a few optional items but really only the first four are required.
- Mint chocolate chip ice cream of choice
- Milk of choice
- Double Stuffed Mint Oreos
- Whipped cream
- Irish cream liqueur (optional)
- Chocolate chips (optional)
- Green food colouring (optional – especially if the ice cream you’re using is already green)
How It’s Made
- Scoop mint chocolate chip ice cream, milk, Oreos and Irish cream liqueur (optional) into a blender.
- Blend until smooth.
- Pour into two tall glasses.
- Garnish with whipped cream and Oreo chunks.
- Enjoy!
Easy Tips to Making the Best Milkshakes
Let me start by saying it’s hard to screw up a milkshake. These recommendations will simply help make it the best milkshake ever.
- Pick a good quality ice cream. It’s the biggest part of the recipe and will be the determining factor as far as flavour goes. Grab the good stuff.
- Thicker milk = creamier shake. If you drink dairy, go for whole milk. If you’re dairy-free, I suggest coconut, cashew or oat milk. These options are creamier and the creamier the better in my opinion.
